About 'account management system'|Turn your checking account into a cash management system
Creating a personal budget and savings plan strikes fear in the hearts of many, but it can be easy and painless. It is essential for personal money management that you have a solid savings plan and budget. Just take one percent of your weekly pay and place it in a high yield savings account. You can also get an account that does not allow you to withdrawal funds for a said amount of time so that you never have to worry about temptation. If you do this you can save an average of $100.00 per year. Take one dollar a day and place it in a jar or box. By doing this you will save an average of $30.00 a month. Now making a budget can be a little more tricky, but just as painless. First, think about all of the purchases you have made in the past three months. How many of them were actually necessities? Second, sit down grab a piece of paper and write down what you absolutely need to get you through a month. You will of course need things like food, utilities, gas for your vehicle(s), rent/mortgage, insurance premiums, and other necessary items like things for a baby, medication, household products bath and beauty products vehicle maintenance etc. For an average food cost plan take the number of people in your household and multiply that by $7.00 and that is the average cost of food per day, now take that total and multiply it by 30 and you will have your average monthly food budget. You don't need a t-bone everyday for dinner and a variety of foods will keep you and your family more happy and healthy. When it comes to household products such as cleaning products and bath and beauty products the average person spends a total of $50.00 a month. If you are money savvy you probably will not need that much, but plan about $50.00 and do whatever you can not to exceed this amount. You don't need a lipstick in every color or 5 different types of floor cleaners most are interchangeable. When it comes to saving on gas for your vehicle(s) you must think of how many unnecessary trips you take per month. Try to do all of your errands in one day instead of spreading them out to every day of the week. You can also opt to bay most of your bills online so that you don't have to drive to a post office or bill paying establishment every time a bill is due. As an added bonus you will save on stamps. For a basic V6 engine vehicle plan to spend and average of $30.00 per week to keep your vehicle going. When it comes to vehicle maintenance you don't need to change your oil or replace your brakes every month so create a small savings account whether through your bank or somewhere in your home and place an average of $15.00 a month in it. Insurance premiums are pretty cut and dry in the amount you will owe per month. Most companies offer discount rates if you have multiple premiums with them so look into that and it could save you a pretty good hunk of cash. Rent and mortgage are inevitable bills that need to paid each and every month. If you have a mortgage you can look into refinancing and always try to get a fixed interest rate. Your rent or mortgage should not exceed 20% of your monthly income. Utilities can be very versatile in what you will owe monthly. There are several factors that play a role in how much you will need to pay them. You really don't need to have every light on in the house so turn them off. When it comes to budgeting for them you should on average set aside $70.00 per utility and once they are all added up you shouldn't exceed the total amount. An easy way to do this would be to take the number of monthly utilities and multiply that by $70.00. Some will be more than $70.00 and some will be less so those in which do not amount to $70.00 can be carried over to fulfill the balance of those that exceed $70.00. For other items such as medication, things for baby or school etc. you must take the minimum of what you need to spend to keep all these things in order and apply that to your budget. Every person will have a different amount because not everyone goes to school, has children or needs medication. When it comes to choosing a money management program there are several to choose from and you should defiantly do your research. Most banks offer free programs if you have an account with them. You can also opt to try a service outside of your bank such as Consumer Credit Consouling, Money Management international and AARP money management. These programs are similar in what they offer like a personal debt management specialist, assistance in creating a budget and savings plan, assistance in paying off credit cards and other past due debts such as mortgages, student loans and other types of loans. Some of these services can cost you money and others are completely free. Some help you reduce your debt and some help you completely pay off your debts. My advice to you would be to shop around and ask plenty of questions before committing yourself to a specific agency. Money management software is a great tool to help you get out of debt as well as help you not get into debt. There are literally hundreds of software programs available some are free and can be downloaded and some can be purchased online or at a store where they sell software. Some of the top software brands are Quicken, Mvelopes, Mint and Microsoft Money. Most money management software, if not free, has a free trial offer so that you can try before you buy to insure that it's a good fit for your financial situation. Software unlike programs aren't going to help you reduce your debt with your creditors unless you start paying them it will also not counsel you. Most of the software out there is very easy to use. Another option that I personally use is OpenOffice. It is very similar to Microsoft Excel, but it is free to download. If you choose this option you will not have wizards and tutorials showing you how to mange your funds. I use this because it works for me and because I don't need specialized help in managing my money. If you need specialized help you should go with a program or software that is designed for money management. Here are a few ways that you can save a substantial amount of money without making any sacrifices. Cancel your movie club membership and head to the library. Yes, the library. You may wait an extra week but the library has all the latest blockbusters and they are yours free for approximately 72 hours. Same goes for those book club memberships. The library has basically every book you could ever think of. You get them for about three weeks for free and if you need more time you can renew them for free. Frozen veggies are in. Frozen veggies carry basically the same nutrients of fresh veggies at a fraction of the price and they last longer. Credit Cards. Do you really need a credit card for every store. No, you don't. Keep one from each company with a maximum of four cards. One Visa, One Master Card, One Discover and One American Express. If you only have one major credit card that's great you'll save more and have less worry about interest fees. Always pay the full amount on time. Do not spend what you cannot pay off every month. Tap water purification. Get a tap water purifier. Bottled water is expensive. You will save time and the environment with a purifier system. If you have a family buy in bulk. Sign up with a wholesale club. The membership fees will pay for themselves on the first visit. Coupons are your friends. Coupons can save you hundreds of dollars per year. Just get that Sunday paper and clip away to financial freedom. Cancel that gym membership. For the cost of one years membership fees you can get yourself a small home gym. Plus you will save gas money because you won't have to drive to the gym everyday. Recycle Aluminum. Your local scrap yard will pay you for it. Just bag them up and bring them in. Grow your own herbs. You can buy kits pretty cheap and grow them in your kitchen. fresh herbs are expensive this way you save a ton of cash. Check out the Chia Herb Garden. If you live close to work walk it. You will receive health benefits as well as save a ton of cash on gas. Check local listings for estate sales and house auctions in your area. You can find amazing deals on just about anything you could need or want. Also don't forget about ebay. Pack your lunch. It is healthier and more cost effective. You can go to your local dollar store and pick up a pouch of brown paper bags, or you can stop at a store like Target and get a thermal lunch bag for under $10.00. You will save an average of $5.00 a day on lunch. Take your own coffee. Instead of stopping at a gourmet coffee shop grab a thermos and bring your own. You will save an average of $30.00 a week. You can but a pound of ground coffee of most gourmet coffee chain coffees at your local grocer for the price of one cup. Go to your city's website and check out things to do that are free. If you live in a big city chances are you will find many things that interest you. Wash your car at home. This is a major saver and burns some calories. An average car wash is $7.00 and that's just the type of car wash you drive through. Buy a bagless vacuum. Those bags cost you money so go bagless. The vacuum will pay for itself within a year. Money management is all about responsibility and living within your means. You could always advance your education or take on a second job if your financial situation becomes to much to handle. Your best bet would be to contact your creditors and try to establish a payment plan that you can confidently pay every month. Most creditors want their money so they will work with you. The next time you are at the store and considering an item ask yourself "do I need this right now and is it necessary in order to sustain a comfortable living?" You know what you need in order to survive and what you don't so always keep a mental note of that when you hit the stores. |
